Yak Squares - knitted shawl
With Yak Squares, EclatDuSoleil has designed a cozy shawl with a contemporary graphic design, which is also a lot of fun to knit.
This shawl is a modular construction, starting with the center lozenge made from 9 squares. The squares are seamlessly assembled, using a technique that makes for a very clean backside of the shawl. The two "wings" are added to create the triangular shape.
The patterns is in written form only, the stitch pattern requiring no charts.
The shawl in the photos was knitted with the Genghis Khan 2 yak down, available in the shop. 3 balls of each color (grey taupe and black) were used - a total of 6 balls. There wasn't much yarn left at the end, so it could be wise to purchase some extra.
Yak Squares can also be knitted in laceweight alpaca. In this cas, 2 balls per colour (for a total of 4 balls) will be enough.
Suggested needle size : a 3.75 mm (US 5) circular needle. You will also need a 3.5 mm (US E-4) crochet hook for the crocheted cast-on (links to videos of the technique are included in the pattern).
Gauge : 10 cm garter stitch = 21 sts x 46 rows (after blocking).
This product contains only the pattern for the design, available as a downloadable pdf-file.
