Firebird - knitted shawl
EclatDuSoleil/Hélène Marcy has put everything she loves in the pattern for Firebird: stripes with a solid and a multicoloured yarn, a "baktus" construction, short rows for a graceful border and an i-cord to finish the top edge among several other features! The result is a generous, colourful shawl to be worn almost like a little cape.
Firebird is a "baktus", knitted from one side tip to the other. The border is worked at the same time as the center of the shawl, including some short rows that give it fullness and movement.
This is a written pattern illustrated with charts.
The shawl in the photos was made with 2 balls of fingering weight merino (col deep red) and 2 balls of Mini Mochi (col Red Zone, unfortunately discontinued). You can find the designer's suggestions for other colour combinations in these articles on the blog: article 1, article 2.
Needle: a 3.75 (US 5) circular needle, or the size needed to get gauge.
Gauge: 23 sts x 36 rows = 10 cm (4") in garter stitch, after blocking.
