Large, soft snowflakes falling slowly to the ground as the sun sets in the early afternoon behind the Stockholm skyline... This was my inspiration for the cowl Flinga and its matching fingerless mittens "Flinga" is Swedish for "snowflake". The border around the cowl reminds me of the icicles hanging from branches which, after having melted slightly under the sun, freeze again when the evening comes. But don't worry about the hardships of Northern winters, the merino wool used in this set will keep you warm.
The cowl is worked bottom up. The border is crocheted directly into the last and first round, while the snowlflakes are worked separately and sewn onto cowl and mittens. The ribbing of the mittens is worked vertically. The first round of the hand is crocheted directly onto the ribbing selvedge, and then worked bottom up.
For the mittens, the pattern includes 3 sizes.
The pattern is written. The written instructions are completed by charts for the snowflakes.
This set is worked in my fingering weight merino. Any fingering weight wool can be used. To make the set, you will need around 400 m of the main colour and 100 m of the contrast colour.
Recommended hook size: 3 mm (US C-2 or D-3) or the size needed to get gauge.
Gauge: 20 dc x 14 rounds = 10 cm x 10 cm/4"x4"
The pattern uses US terminology.
This product contains only the pattern for the design, sold as a downloadable pdf-file.
