Lady in Red - crochet shawl
Lady in Red is an original shawl, both when it comes to the stitch patterns developed for the pattern and the details of the construction. It's a shawl to crochet with a light laceweight yarn - the yarn used in the sample is a naturally dyed, extremely soft merino wool.
With her unique mix of dc stripes and delicate lace stitches, Lady in Red is an interesting pattern for an intermediate crocheter.
Lady in Red is designed by Annette Petavy.
Worked top-down, this shawl is partly constructed as a classical half-circle (in the solid dc sections) and partly as an adaptation of the pi-shawl principles - there are no increases in the lace sections.
Size after blocking: approx. 150 x 60 cm (59" x 23.5").
The pattern is written with charts for the lace sections, including the border.
The shawl in the photos was worked in a laceweight merino yarn from Renaissance Dyeing. A kit is available on their website.
This yarn can be substituted by another laceweight yarn at approx. 400 - 500 m (440 - 550 yds) per 50 grams.
You will need approx. 220 m (240yds) in col A (medium grey), 220 m (240yds) in col B (light grey) and 815 m (900 yds) in col C (red).
Hook size: 3 mm (US C-2 or D-3) or the size needed to get gauge.
Gauge: 22 sts x 13 rows in solid dc = 10 x 10 cm (4" x 4") after blocking.
The pattern uses US terminology.
